C.D. Peacock & Co. (Chicago, Ill.) records, ca. 1837-1993.

General ledgers (1904-1912, 1981-1983), other account books and audit reports (1912-1955), correspondence, leases, insurance policies, publicity materials, catalogs, audio tapes, historical information, and other records of C.D. Peacock & Co., one of the oldest and most prominent jewelers in Chicago. Peacock's main store was on State Street in the Loop, and the company eventually established suburban stores as well. Also present in the collection are some materials from and about the Peacock family, which settled in Chicago in 1837 and continued to own the business until 1969.

C.D. Peacock & Co. was founded in1837 as the "House of Peacock" by Elijah Peacock. In 1889, the business came to be known as C.D. Peacock, after Charles D. Peacock, son of Elijah Peacock, who had assumed ownership. The company remained in the Peacock family until 1969, when it was sold to Dayton-Hudson Corp., and has had other owners subsequently.
